Australia’s Consumer Price Index rose 4.3% in the twelve months to September 2026, up from 4.0% in August, according to ABS figures published on 28 October.

Annual and monthly changes

The 4.3% figure is an annual rate, not a one-month price increase. In September, the index rose 0.8% from August in original terms and 0.6% after seasonal adjustment.

Annual trimmed mean inflation, which reduces the influence of extreme price movements, was 3.6%, up from a revised 3.5% in August. Housing was the largest contributor to annual inflation, with a 5.2% increase, according to the statistics agency’s media release.

This is a statistical release, not a central-bank interest-rate decision.
