Eastern Macedonia and Thrace: three road deaths in September
Greek Police recorded 25 injury collisions and 7,492 violations. Deaths were unchanged from last September, while injuries fell.

Three people died on the roads of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in September 2026, according to the monthly report published by Greek Police on Sunday 4 October. It covers Evros, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala, Thasos and Drama.
Fewer injuries, the same number of deaths
The regional police directorate recorded 25 road collisions involving casualties, compared with 26 in September 2025. Three were fatal, one serious and 21 minor. Fatal and serious incidents were unchanged from the same month last year.
There were 31 casualties: three deaths, one serious injury and 27 minor injuries. September 2025 had 44 casualties: three deaths, three serious injuries and 38 minor injuries. The reduction therefore concerns injuries; deaths did not fall.
Recorded traffic violations
Checks resulted in 7,492 recorded violations. Police classified 1,812 as dangerous. Speeding accounted for 1,100, followed by 184 seat-belt violations, 120 helmet violations and 92 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol.
There were also 80 violations for driving against traffic, 79 for passing a red light and 57 for using a phone while driving. These are violations detected during checks, not a measure of every offence on the road network.
What the report shows
Police investigations identified speeding, drink-driving, distraction, failure to give way, inadequate following distance and driving against traffic as leading causes. The announcement does not provide a collision count for each cause.
The figures cover one region and one month. They are not a national report and cannot, on their own, attribute changes to a specific measure or establish an annual trend. Despite fewer injuries, the human cost of fatal collisions remains.
