Heavy rain on the morning of Monday, 12 October 2026 caused problems at Chios airport and on local roads. This is a documented incident from 12 October, not newly confirmed damage today.

Water through the airport roof

According to ERT News's local report, water entered the check-in hall through the roof. Staff removed water and covered screening equipment to protect it.

Problems in town

The Fire Service, municipal water utility and Civil Protection intervened to pump water and clear drains. Local outlet Astraparis reported flooded roads in the centre, Farkaina and near the airport, along with electricity problems.

What the reports do not establish

The material checked does not confirm that the airport closed because of the rain or that specific flights were cancelled. It also provides no overall damage assessment or technical finding about the roof.

Active warnings are collected in the Alert section.
