Updated 14.10.2026 · 18:10 Athens time — What changed

The specific 15:00–18:00 window on 14 October has ended. The fresh check of the ministry's official announcements found no extension. Expiry does not establish that the danger has passed or remove general safety duties. The original measure is retained below for reference.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security announced a mandatory pause for specified outdoor work in the Dodecanese Regional Unit on Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 15:00 to 18:00 Athens time, because of severe weather.

Which work is covered

The guidance concerns outdoor manual work, including technical and building projects, construction sites and ship-repair zones. It includes deliveries and goods transport using two-wheeled vehicles, scooters or roller skates. Workers are covered regardless of their employment arrangement, including those working through digital platforms.

Exceptions and fines

Activities involving important and socially critical infrastructure in healthcare, transport and utilities are exempt. The exemption requires necessary worker-protection measures and suitable personal protective equipment; it does not remove safety obligations.

The announcement provides for a Labour Inspectorate fine of €2,000 per worker for failure to comply with the obligations.

Remote work and schedule changes

In areas expected to be particularly affected, the ministry recommends remote work where organisationally feasible. It also permits employers not to register working-time changes in ERGANI in advance when facilitating workers' arrival and departure.

This is not a blanket shutdown of businesses or mandatory remote work. This specific work-pause window ends at 18:00 on 14 October and is not automatically extended.
