National Youth Capital 2027: municipalities may apply until 30 October

The call is open only to municipalities and provides for a possible €80,000 grant to the winner. It is not an individual application scheme for young people.

Greek municipalities may apply for the “National Youth Capital 2027” programme until 23:59 on Friday, 30 October 2026, under the official call published by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family.

The ministry's call page was published on 8 October. The underlying administrative document is dated 29 June and states that applications opened on 1 July. The deadline remains active until the end of October.

Who may apply

Only first-tier local authorities are eligible to apply. Young people, associations and youth organisations cannot file an independent application, although they may participate in or support a municipality's programme of activities.

The application must be signed by the municipality's legal representative and sent electronically to the ministry's Youth Directorate. Mandatory documents include a municipal council decision, a letter of interest, a description and timetable of activities, the target group and evidence that funding has been secured.

What will be assessed

The committee will assess the municipality's vision and strategy for people aged 15–29, existing youth services and structures, young people's participation in decision-making, the European dimension and the sustainability of the proposed programme.

Indicative themes include culture, art, the environment and climate change, social inclusion and youth entrepreneurship. Scoring also takes account of the municipality's category and size, with extra points for small, mountainous and island municipalities.

The possible €80,000 grant

The municipality selected as “National Youth Capital 2027” may receive a one-off grant of up to €80,000. The call does not describe this as an automatic payment: a joint decision by the Ministers of National Economy and Finance and Social Cohesion and Family is required.

The next four municipalities will receive a certificate or commendation, and their innovative proposals may be implemented under the ministry's auspices, without a cash prize or financial grant.

This is a competitive municipal process for activities in 2027. It is not an allowance or an open funding scheme for individual young people, and no winner has yet been selected.
