Greek out-of-court mechanism completed 2,237 debt settlements worth €640m in September
Ministry data show a six-month high and 70,244 completed settlements in total. The amounts refer to original debts and do not equal debt write-offs.

Greece's out-of-court mechanism completed 2,237 new debt settlements in September, according to data published by the Ministry of National Economy and Finance on 6 October 2026. The original debts covered by these agreements totalled €640 million.
The ministry described the result as a six-month high. Of the month's settlements, 496 were completed under rules requiring creditor participation. A further 7,493 applications were started and 2,986 were submitted in final form.
More than 70,000 settlements in total
From the mechanism's launch to the end of September, 70,244 settlements had been completed, covering €21.21 billion in original debt, according to the same official data.
The original debt amount is neither the amount paid nor the amount written off. Each debtor's final burden depends on the agreement's duration, interest rate, instalments and any write-off it provides.
Vulnerable debtors and auction suspensions
September included 270 settlements for vulnerable debtors, 32 of them involving people with disabilities. The ministry also reported 651 auction suspensions.
An auction suspension is not permanent asset protection and is not the same as a completed settlement. Its scope and duration depend on the individual case and the progress of the application.
Bilateral agreements and myEGDIXlive support
In a separate category, Greece's four largest loan servicers completed bilateral settlements worth €164 million for 2,080 debtors in August. These agreements are not settlements under the out-of-court mechanism and are recorded separately.
From January 2026 to the end of September, 35,131 appointments had taken place through myEGDIXlive. Applicants can seek official guidance on the procedure before making their final submission.
