Home colouring involves more than choosing a shade. The FDA recommends following instructions and testing on skin before each application, as the product directs.

Avoid improvisation

Wear gloves, time the application and rinse thoroughly. Do not use scalp hair dye on eyebrows or eyelashes, or apply it to irritated or damaged scalp skin.

Previous reactions warrant ingredient checks and professional advice. A test cannot guarantee that every allergy is excluded. Stop after a reaction and contact a healthcare professional. This guide describes safe use, not a new ban on hair dyes.
