Line 1: first refurbished train enters passenger service
Passenger service began on 7 October. The programme covers 14 trains, with contractual completion scheduled for 2027.

The first fully refurbished train on Athens Metro Line 1 — the ISAP railway — entered passenger service on 7 October 2026, STASY announced. It is the first delivered train in a programme to fully refurbish 14 trains from the eighth procurement batch.
What changes for passengers
According to STASY, the equipment includes passenger-information screens, CCTV cameras, improvements for wheelchair transport, renewed seats and floors, LED lighting and upgraded air conditioning.
The metal body is retained, while key systems are replaced with new alternating-current motors, traction equipment and electrical and pneumatic systems. The company says the prescribed tests, checks and certifications were completed before the train entered service.
Remaining deliveries
The second train is undergoing static tests in Volos, where four trains are being refurbished simultaneously. Contractual completion of the overall project is scheduled within 2027. Spain's CAF is carrying out the refurbishment for STASY, with ESPA funding.
More frequent services are a programme objective. The announcement of the first delivery does not include a new timetable or a specific immediate reduction in waiting times.
