Six people, including an infant, died after a speedboat collided with a coast guard vessel near Agrilia, Lesvos, in the early hours of 19 October 2026.

The coast guard reported four men, a woman and an infant dead, and eight survivors taken to hospital, according to Reuters. ERTnews also reports that toll.

The authorities’ account

A 37-year-old Turkish man was arrested as the suspected operator and smuggler. Shipping Minister Vassilis Kikilias attributed the collision to the speedboat striking the coast guard vessel. This is the authorities’ account; the circumstances remain under investigation, and arrest is not conviction.
