Autumn layering: six combinations with tops and outerwear
Layers for cool mornings, compatible colours and pieces that are easy to remove.

1. Cream top, olive overshirt and dark jeans
Wear the heavier shirt open as a light jacket. Olive and cream let the jeans provide a calm base. The inner top should fit comfortably inside the sleeves.
2. Navy knit, grey trousers and camel coat
Three simple colours create a clear result. Choose a fine knit so fabric does not bunch at the shoulders beneath the coat. Keep the trousers and change only the top the next day.
3. Rust top, beige trousers and denim jacket
The warm top colour adds character. Denim outerwear keeps the outfit casual, while a plain blazer makes it more polished. A neutral bag completes the composition.
4. White shirt beneath a sleeveless knit
Pair them with straight black or navy trousers. Let the collar and part of the cuffs show. If the shirt bunches around the body, try a roomier knit rather than squeezing the fabrics together.
5. Plain top, cardigan and light raincoat
Use a different cardigan shade so it stands out. Remove the outer layer easily indoors. Check the coat label for its actual protection against rain.
6. Black top and trousers with a coloured scarf
A single-colour base needs only one changing element. Try a burgundy, blue or green scarf with neutral outerwear. Keep the scarf loose enough to remove and store easily.
