Coast Guard signs €23.8 million contract for seven new patrol boats
The 26 October contract covers boats to be built in Greece. Up to seven more are an option; deliveries are expected later.

A €23.8 million contract for seven new high-speed Coast Guard patrol boats was signed on 26 October 2026, according to the official announcement by Greece’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy. The MAGNAR 1950 boats, measuring 21.29 metres, are to be built in Greece by VIKING LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT HELLAS.
Seven boats ordered, with an option to expand
The contract includes an option for up to seven additional boats. This does not amount to a firm order for fourteen: it allows a possible future expansion.
Minister Vassilis Kikilias put successive deliveries at six to twelve months after signing. This is the timetable presented by the minister, rather than deliveries already completed.
Planned capabilities
According to the ministry’s published specifications, the boats are expected to reach at least 50 knots and have a range of at least 320 nautical miles. The announcement lists a crew of six, total carrying capacity of at least 30 people, and navigation, communications and search-and-rescue equipment.
Their intended tasks include surveillance, maritime border protection, fishing inspections, tackling crime and search and rescue. These capabilities are attributed to the official announcement; they are not an independent performance test of the boats.
