Nea Propontida municipality announced on 22 October 2026 that it was lifting the notice declaring Nea Moudania’s water unsuitable for drinking. The notice had been issued on 20 October.

What changed

The municipality says physical and chemical tests of each borehole supplying the town identified one affected by seawater intrusion, with elevated chloride concentrations. That borehole was isolated from the supply.

According to the announcement, samples taken on 21 October after the intervention showed chloride levels below the limits, making the water suitable for drinking again. Regular testing will continue, with results published on the municipal website.

Area and test parameter

The announcement concerns Nea Moudania; it does not establish that restrictions in any other settlement have been lifted. The municipality also distinguishes chlorides associated with seawater intrusion from residual chlorine used to maintain disinfection.
