Drivers and vehicles: €2.1 million contract for tests, training and registration plates
The project has a 24-month horizon and covers digital practical-test records and state registration-plate management. Signing does not mean all new applications are immediately operational.

A €2,101,800 programme contract, including VAT, for digital driver and vehicle services was signed on 20 October 2026, according to a joint announcement by the responsible ministries. The project will be implemented with the Institute of Computer Science at the Foundation for Research and Technology–Hellas and is expected to finish within 24 months.
Three workstreams
- Digital services: new register connections, upgraded user management and digitisation of replacement plates following theft, loss or destruction.
- Driver training and testing: digital monitoring of theoretical and practical training, attendance records, random examiner selection, an examiner application, digital recording of practical tests and an appeals mechanism. A Highway Code learning application for phones and tablets is included.
- State registration plates: an information system for stocks, ordering, production and allocation, automated number allocation and vehicle-register connections.
Funding and operational launch
Funding is identified under the Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence Ministry’s 2026–2030 Sectoral Development Programme, through the national component of the Development Public Investment Programme. Applications are planned to run on government G-Cloud infrastructure.
The confirmed development is the signed contract. The announcement gives no separate production-launch date for each application and does not establish that the new testing procedures already apply everywhere.
Existing services
Existing services are available through gov.gr’s “Citizen and everyday life” / “Transport” section and the driver-and-vehicle services platform, using TaxisNet credentials. According to ministry figures, the existing platform offers 19 digital services and recorded 1,162,075 completed applications in the first nine months of 2026.
