Makeup brushes: cleaning and correct drying
A small care routine for tools that touch your face every day.

A weekly appointment
AAD recommends washing brushes every 7–10 days. Set a reminder for a day when you can let them dry fully before using them again.
Care for the bristles
Rinse the tips with lukewarm water, clean with gentle shampoo and rinse until the water is clear. Do not immerse the base or handle.
Dry horizontally
Leave them on a clean towel with the bristles over the counter edge. Upright drying can send water towards the glue. Do not share brushes. Persistent irritation needs a dermatologist.
