What changed: Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said three children aged 5, 8 and 11 and a teacher were killed in the 15 October attack at Silver Rail Elementary School, according to Reuters and ERT’s reporting of the subsequent briefing.

The 16-year-old attacker is also dead and is not included in the four victims. Krantz said a citizen followed him inside and shot him. Reuters reports that a 7-year-old pupil and a 54-year-old teacher are in critical condition.

How the information developed

The earlier written police release, issued at 3:02 p.m. local time on 15 October — 1:02 a.m. on 16 October in Greece, gave no death toll and said a bystander might have shot the suspect. The new information is attributed to the named police chief’s statement, not to that earlier release.

The initial release records the first call at 12:59 p.m., subsequent reports of a gunman inside and officers arriving at 1:02 p.m. No motive is assigned here.
