The Fire Service announced its investigative findings. The suspects allegedly interfered with gas pipes to steal copper.

The Fire Service announced three arrests over the fatal 25 September explosion in Plaka at a briefing on 30 October 2026 at 14:20. The suspects appeared before an investigating judge today and were given until Monday 2 November to respond to the allegations.
The official account says the arrests took place on 29 October under judicial warrants. Fire Service investigators allege that the three interfered with natural-gas pipes to steal copper, causing a leak. This is the authorities’ investigative account; criminal responsibility remains for the courts to determine.
The Fire Service describes a 34-day investigation involving reconstruction of the scene, examination of evidence, audiovisual analysis and material obtained through the lifting of communications confidentiality. It reports cooperation with court-appointed experts and the National Technical University of Athens metallurgy laboratory.
ERTnews reports the questioning date and presents footage it links to the investigation. The material forms part of a judicial process and does not replace a court’s determination.
