Reuters’s updated report includes confirmation from an Austrian Airlines spokesperson of a safe landing, with 51 passengers and six crew. The airline reported an aircraft search and rebooking onto another flight after its completion.
Earlier reporting
Flight OS82 from Tel Aviv to Vienna, operated by an A320, diverted to Sofia following a reported bomb threat, according to an original Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications announcement dated 18 October 2026.
The response to the reported threat
The crew reported the threat near the Romanian border and decided to make an unscheduled landing. The ministry says a fighter accompanied the aircraft to the airport.
Initial information lists 51 passengers and six crew members. Passengers disembarked, an operational coordination team was formed and the responsible authorities began checks.
What the announcement does not establish
The statement does not announce that a bomb was found, identify a person responsible or report that checks have concluded. A reported threat is not treated as proof that an explosive device existed.
