Romania: SRI alleges sabotage network coordinated from Russia
The intelligence service links the network to the 14 September fire in Brașov and reports investigations involving European countries. Attribution of responsibility reflects the Romanian authorities’ position.

A sabotage network that Romania’s intelligence service SRI says was coordinated from the Russian Federation has been identified with domestic and foreign partners. Its announcement of 26 October 2026 links the network to the 14 September fire on Brașov’s Carfil industrial platform, near arms producer CARFIL SA, a ROMARM subsidiary.
SRI reports involvement by citizens of former Soviet states living in EU countries and judicial proceedings in cooperation with European authorities. These are the service’s findings and allegations, rather than a published conviction.
Targets described by the service
According to SRI, the missions extended beyond Romania to state and private arms-production facilities and other military or industrial targets in the region. The service places the case within a wider sabotage campaign in Europe.
ERT’s accessible report, citing ANA-MPA and Reuters, relays the announcement and notes that Russia generally denies allegations of sabotage in Europe.
Investigation continues
SRI says investigations continue with DIICOT and the relevant Defence and Interior Ministry services. The network’s alleged link to Russia is not presented as judicially established, nor is it inferred that every facility mentioned was attacked.
