Strength at home: control before heavier weights
Strength work starts with simple movements and resistance suited to our abilities.

Strength training is not limited to heavy weights. Body weight and resistance bands can make muscles work harder than usual, according to the NHS.
General guidance calls for strengthening activity on at least two days a week. Strength work complements aerobic movement rather than replacing it.
The NHS suggests simple starting exercises such as slowly sitting down and standing up from a stable chair. The chair should have no wheels and must not slide. Repetitions are increased gradually.
Before adding weight, focus on learning the movement well. With an injury or doubts about technique, a physiotherapist or appropriately qualified exercise professional can help adapt the activity.
