Greece's Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) announced on 14 October 2026 that 3,081 items falling under weapons legislation had been seized at Thessaloniki port. Its detailed inventory lists daggers, knives, swords and brass knuckles — not a documented seizure of firearms.

What the announcement describes

According to AADE, officers from the anti-smuggling department of Thessaloniki's First Import–Export Customs Office identified a suspicious container during routine sampling checks. They examined it using a mobile X-ray system and then physically inspected the entire container.

The authority says the cargo arrived from a port in China, with a company in Bulgaria listed as its final recipient. The declared goods were sunglasses and beads. The seized items were found in 24 cartons.

The inventory

The list comprises 1,900 daggers, 470 butterfly knives, 595 swords with blade lengths of 42, 45 or 50 centimetres, 110 brass knuckles and six karambit knives. These add up to 3,081 items.

AADE says the seizure followed notification of, and agreement from, the prosecutor responsible for criminal prosecution. The release announces no arrests, identities of those involved or finding of guilt by a court. Details of the route and declared recipient are attributed to the authority's announcement.
