Toyota and Waymo announced on 30 October 2026 that initial testing and validation of an autonomous Toyota bZ4X fleet in Japan is planned for 2027. This expands the preliminary partnership announced in April 2025.

Toyota says vehicle assembly and integration of Waymo’s autonomous-driving hardware will take place at its Takaoka plant in Toyota City. The companies describe plans for Level 4 vehicles and future development of a ride-hailing service.

Deployment to Britain and other Waymo-serviced markets is planned for subsequent years. This announcement does not launch a commercial service in Japan today or provide a Greek availability date. Exploring similar technology for privately owned Toyota vehicles remains a separate, future part of the partnership.
