Earlier update — history before voting began
Voters in Bulgaria are due to elect a president and vice-president on Sunday 25 October 2026. The Central Election Commission’s dedicated election page and announcements confirm the date.
The official register includes Iliana Iotova, with vice-presidential candidate Kiril Valchev, and Andrey Gyurov, with Georgi Kandev. Registration confirms candidacy, rather than predicting victory.
Voting hours and a possible second contest
According to the accessible Reuters report carried by ERT, voting is scheduled from 07:00 to 20:00 local time. At the time of writing, the scheduled opening time had not yet arrived.
In Decision 405 of 23 October, the commission approved technical specifications for paper ballots for a possible new vote on 1 November. This is conditional preparation, rather than an announcement that a second round is required. Pre-election polls are not a vote count; the result awaits the official electoral process.
