UK–Eritrea: restrictions on officials, not a blanket visa ban
Preferential fast-track processing is withdrawn and diplomats face travel restrictions. A universal visa suspension remains a warning by the UK government.

The UK Home Office announced on 15 October 2026 that preferential fast-track visa processing for Eritrean VIPs and government officials was being withdrawn from that day.
What changes now
The official release concerns preferential processing, not an already imposed ban on all visas. Eritrean diplomats also require Foreign Office permission to travel more than 60 kilometres beyond London.
Which measure remains a threat
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood warns that a complete visa shutdown could follow unless Eritrea improves cooperation on returning its nationals who have no right to remain in the UK. The release does not describe that universal suspension as a measure already in force or set a specific deadline in days.
London says Eritrea withdrew returns cooperation earlier this year. This is the UK government’s rationale, not an independent finding. Distinguishing the immediate measures from the warning matters: the release does not establish a general entry ban on all Eritrean citizens.
