A Russian air attack struck residential areas of Zaporizhzhia on Saturday, 10 October 2026, according to Reuters and Ukrainian authorities. A multi-storey residential building was destroyed, and search-and-rescue operations are continuing.

Two official tolls

Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported 20 people killed, including three children, and 18 injured, also including three children. The service said three people had been rescued and 35 had received psychological assistance.

The Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration (OVA) gave a different toll: 18 people killed, including four children, and 17 injured, including three children.

The numbers are not final

Because the two relevant Ukrainian authorities are reporting different figures while the operation remains under way, AppiSToS records a range of 18 to 20 deaths and does not add the separate tolls together. Reuters reported 20 deaths, citing the DSNS update and reporting from the scene.

What is reported about the attack

Reuters reported that five guided bombs struck several parts of the city at the same time. Regional authorities declared Sunday, 11 October a day of mourning.

The political position on sanctions

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy argued that easing US pressure through the Russian diesel agreement had encouraged Moscow. This is the Ukrainian president's political assessment; no independent causal link between the agreement and this specific attack has been established.
