What you need

  • 800 g peeled apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp cinnamon and 30 g brown sugar
  • Topping: 100 g plain flour, 80 g rolled oats, 70 g cold butter in cubes and 50 g brown sugar

Method

  1. Preheat a conventional oven to 180°C. Spread apples in a dish about 20 × 25 cm and mix with lemon juice, cinnamon and 30 g sugar.
  2. Rub flour and cold butter together with your fingertips until they resemble coarse crumbs. Stir in oats and the remaining sugar.
  3. Scatter over the apples without pressing down. Bake for about 35–40 minutes until golden and the apples are tender. Cover loosely towards the end if browning too quickly.
  4. Wait 10 minutes before serving: the filling stays very hot.

Firmer apples may need a few extra minutes. This recipe contains milk and gluten-containing cereals; ordinary oats are not automatically gluten-free. Yoghurt is optional for serving.

Keep leftovers covered in the refrigerator. This is a home-cooking suggestion, with no claim of professional kitchen testing.
